In 1999, TCU Junior Joelle
Martin approached the TCU administration with an offer that couldn't be
refused. "My grandfather, Paul Martin, wants to give $50,000 to start a
permanently endowed lectureship in values and ethics in honor of my late
grandmother, Dorothy Garrett Martin. In accepting the gift, Delta Gammas
must raise a like amount of money to establish the lectureship." Of
course the university said yes, appointing a talented committee of Delta
Gamma alumnae to raise $50,000 to meet the challenge and create the $
100,000 lectureship. In October 2001, the Delta Gamma Foundation
and Executive Offices officially awarded TCU the lectureship and the
challenge gift from Mr. Martin.
Fort Worth Alumnae Raise Money for
Lectureship
The Fort Worth Delta Gamma alumnae
chapter and Gamma Tau/TCU chapter made a formal
presentation to Michael Ferrari, Chancellor of Texas Christian University on October 1, 2001 at TCU's
Alumni Center. Fort Worth Delta Gamma raised over $60,000 of which 50,000 was matched by
The Martin Family. Over $110,000 was presented to the TCU Chancellor to
bring the Delta Gamma Dorothy Garrett Martin Values and Ethics Lectureship to the TCU
campus. Thank you
to the many Delta Gamma alumnae who donated to this worthy effort. We will
continue to accept donations for the Lectureship to ensure that the future of this
dynamic programming opportunity for Delta Gamma and TCU continues on the TCU
campus. The Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter,
Gamma Tau alumnae and the
Gamma Tau Chapter are very proud to be able to make a significant
contribution to TCU and the Fort Worth community with our gift of this
important Lectureship that will enrich the entire city. We hope that each
Delta Gamma will be proud of this wonderful accomplishment.
As of 2008 the
Lectureship principal fund is $126,000. Our goal is to raise at least
$180,000 so we are gladly accepting donations of any amount! Please contact
TCU if
you would like to make a donation.
